IT'S ALL ABOUT CELL FUNCTION!

Vertebral subluxation is a serious condition consisting of misalignment/and or decreased motion of bones (vertebrae) in the spine.  Within 7-10 days of misalignment/decreased motion occurring, degenerative changes begin in the bones and soft tissues in the surrounding area.  In other words, the osteoarthritis process begins.  Also, these misalignments contribute to a chronic increased stress response and a chronic state of break-down or degeneration within the body.  These misalignments are causing non-homeostatic cell function or adaptive cellular function.  Since health is a direct consequence of cell function, and subluxation represents a state of, and cause of, adaptive cell function, it can be said that subluxation makes an individual less well and therefore more susceptible to disease or infirmary.

Put plainly, SUBLUXATION--->INDIVIDUAL IS LESS WELL-->DISEASE.

The question that should be asked now is NOT whether chiropractic can treat pain and disease, but whether it can increase cell function.

Disease can only exist in the presence of non-homeostatic cell function.  In other words, only unhealthy people get sick.  Taking away pain or disease does not and cannot increase cellular function so the person is left just as susceptible as they were when they developed the condition initially--their level of cellular function is still low enough to make them susceptible to disease and infirmary.

Chiropractic adjustments INCREASE THE LEVEL OF CELL FUNCTION every time!  Chiropractic is even more effective when combined with proper nutrition, exercise and stress reduction strategies (eat well, move well, think well!)

HOW DO SUBLUXATIONS OCCUR?

There are 3 main categories of stressors that contribute to the formation of the vertebral subluxation complex.  Just remember the "3 T's"--

      1) Traumas

      2) Toxins

      3) Thoughts

Trauma

Macrotraumas can be described as the classic injuries to soft tissues as a result of:

      A) Birth trauma

      B) Falls and accidents

      C) Sports injuries

Microtraumas can be described as the classic repetitive stress injuries as a result of:

      A) Chronic Bad posture (school, work, car, home, etc)

      B) Chronic sedentary lifestyle

      C) Overuse injuries

Traumas (Macro and Micro) lead to tissue injury and result in scar tissue deposition in muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints capsules, and on bony surfaces.  This leads to functional changes that result in decreased motion in the joints and surrounding tissues.

Neurological changes also accompany these soft tissue injuries and often result in further decreases in motion. (There are also NUMEROUS other detrimental effects as a result of these neurological changes).

Toxins

Toxins can be in the form of food additives, biochemical constituents of food (i.e. gran fed meat and dairy), environmental toxins, and LACK OF essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, protein, etc.  Toxins are a main contributor to a decrease in proper cell function, which  decreases the health and vitality of the ENTIRE body.

Thoughts

Chronic emotional stressors can cause chronic muscle tension, which can cause a plethora of muscle changes (spasm, shortening, energy changes, etc), hormone imbalances, decreased cellular function, decreased immune system function, and a general decrease in health and vitality of the entire body.
